Hi – The HDMI output is plugged to my Yamaha YSP-2500 soundbar which has HDMI output connected to my TV. The soundbar handles the audio output and retransmits the video signal to my TV.

Most TVs do not allow DTS/Dolby Digital passthrough through their HDMI inputs, so you need to have a sound system that has HDMI output and connect MINIX to it first. If this is not possible, you may have to consider using a splitter with optical output that allows you to separate the original HDMI signal.

One note I'd like to share knowing your current setup: the IR remote would only work for basic functionality. So I'd strongly recommend to grab the MINIX NEO A2 Lite keyboard, use a bluetooth or wireless keyboard/trackpad to control MINIX and Plex player from the comfort of your couch. I'm seriously considering to get a flirc dongle so I can control Plex, my TV and sound system using my Logitech Harmony One remote, just as I did when I used Mac mini for the client.

Hope you will be happy with your new setup. Plex is just great.

Thank you Michael!

Right now I use a MacBook Pro 2,4 GHz i5 as both Server and Client and sometimes with iOS and Android clients devices.
I'm looking for something dedicated to the main tv with Plex Home Theater (for the same reasons you do) and I'm tired of plugging and unplugging the hdmi from the Macbook.

I'm glad I read your article and found out about the Minix with Windows. I think is the cheapest solution for PHT.

I would use the Minx as a client for the Server on the MacBook Pro and as a Server fot the Minix itself only for play local files.

Hi Nick – I use Mac mini for the Plex Server, but yes you should be able to install both Plex Server and Plex Home Theater on Minix Neo Z64w without problem. Do keep in mind if you are planning to use the Minix as a server and thinking to use multiple devices that require live transcoding like on Android and iOS devices, then its limited CPU may not be enough to serve them.

Before switching to full server (Mac mini i7) + clients (Minix Neo Z64, iPad, iPhone) setup, I used Mac mini with Core 2 Duo processor as both server and client. It served me well for a number of years. I believe Z64's Atom Z3735F is actually a better processor to handle media playback.
