Hi Drew – Thanks for dropping your comment. First off, the 'geek' in the phrase is to describe exactly that: to share my experience mixing things up in hope of getting a better result. If I go with the all the details and numbers, then it would become an audiophile review.

For the bass boost, without a proper tool to actually support my answer, I do feel it increases the signal for frequencies above 200Hz. I have no doubt that this is not a DAC to compete with more expensive USB DAC/Amps like the ones you got. However this is my first DAC and I am happy to let others know that it was not a wasted investment. My listening mood changes often and so far it has given a slightly better experience compared to built-in DAC on my Macbook Air.

Somehow I worry in the next short few months I would be craving for an upgrade, but that is just how it goes in with consumerism these days :)

I arrived here looking for reviews on the Fiio E10K.

Some feedback: I was hoping you would elaborate more on your reactions to this hardware beyond build quality and how to plug it in (this is supposed to be a geek's review, right? haha).

I have some more expensive USB DAC/AMPs was looking for a more subjective, decisive opinion on audio quality for this model w/ respect to FLAC, whether that bass boost feature works well, etc. I have read on some forums that the bass feature tends to boost the 200-500 Hz range, which is too high in a lot of scenarios. Supposedly, a sub-200 Hz boost would have been better... but, you know... that's just another dude on the internet like anything else.

Anyhow, thanks for the thoughtful write-up on such clean page. Keep it up, and please get more technical and opinionated whenever possible. Peace brother.
